Lifetime's Enduring Existence
Luxembourg Street is currently undergoing significant changes as part of the Lebensader Lux project, an urban development initiative aimed at making the street more attractive and livable. Construction work on the project began in the fall of 2024 and is progressing faster than expected.
The project, which is expected to last until the fall of 2029, has received funding from various sources. The Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport and the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) will provide 171,600 euros for the planned bike street. Additionally, the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction and the NRW State Ministry of Home Affairs, Municipalities, Construction and Digitalization will contribute 7,971,413 euros to the project.
The intermediate section of Luxembourg Street will be designated as a bike street, and two roundabouts will be built from the intersections. A traffic-calmed zone with plenty of greenery and high stay quality will be created between Bonn Street and Horbeller Street.
To ensure transparency, a theme page has been created around Lebensader Lux. This page provides updates on the project's progress and offers insights into its various aspects.
Despite the construction work, Luxembourg Street will remain accessible in both directions between Bonn Street and AOK Street. However, temporary removal of parking spaces in the area may occur due to the ongoing construction.
For the safety of all road users, the maximum speed limit will be reduced to 30 km/h. The access regulation in the Horbeller Street to AOK Street area (18:00 to 9:00) will remain in effect.
A significant part of the project involves canal construction, which will take place between AOK Street and Severinus Street. This construction is integral to the overall project and contributes to its ultimate goal of enhancing the appeal and livability of Luxembourg Street.
As the project continues, the community can look forward to a more vibrant and inviting Luxembourg Street, complete with improved infrastructure for cyclists, a more pedestrian-friendly environment, and enhanced greenery. Stay tuned for more updates on the Lebensader Lux project.
