Saltworks Technologies, a Canadian company, has made waves in the water treatment industry by supplying two of its innovative FusionRO plants to international clients. The company's solutions, which are fully commissioned before shipping, promise reduced installation time, cost, and complexity in the field.

The FusionRO system is a game-changer, offering energy and cost savings compared to traditional evaporators for suitable fluids. It achieves a brine concentration of sodium chloride exceeding 220,000 mg/L at a staggering 50% lower capital and operating expenditure than evaporators.

One of the FusionRO plants has found a home with a lithium refiner, where it is being used to concentrate lithium at a lower cost and energy than evaporators. Another has been shipped to an industrial site for treating and reusing water while producing a minimal liquid discharge (MLD) brine.

The FusionRO technology is a low-salinity rejection reverse osmosis (LSRRO) system, which sets it apart from conventional RO systems. It requires half the number of high-pressure stages due to its ultra-high pressure cascading loop design. This design also allows FusionRO to hybridize ultra-high-pressure reverse osmosis (UHP-RO) with UHP nanofiltration, resulting in brine concentration 175% higher than conventional seawater RO.
