Live Updates from Press Conference: Announcing India's Women's World Cup Squad for 2025 - Contenders and Cutoffs Revealed
The Indian cricket team has announced its squad for the upcoming 2025 Women's World Cup. The announcement was made by ODI captain Harmanpreet Kaur and chief selector Neetu David on August 19.
The squad includes some of the country's top players such as Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Smriti Mandhana (vc), Tejal Hasabnis, Jemimah Rodrigues, Amanjot Kaur (who was rested for the Australia series to ensure she's fit and ready for the World Cup), Sayali Satghare, Pratika Rawal, Sree Charani, Kranti Gaud, Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Richa Ghosh (wk), Yastika Bhatia (wk), Arundhati Reddy, and Radha Yadav.
India's best finish in the tournament's history has been runners-up, achieved in 2005 and 2017. The team will be aiming to surpass this record in the upcoming World Cup.
The 21-year-old prodigy, Shafali Verma, has not been around the ODI setup lately, and her potential return for the World Cup is uncertain. Verma was not picked for the World Cup squad due to a strategy of slow and steady progress for her career.
India recently defeated England 2-1 in an ODI series away from home. The team has three more ODIs against Australia coming up in September before the World Cup warm-ups begin. The defending champions, Australia, will also be participating in the tournament, along with England, Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, South Africa, and the hosts India.
The tournament will be held across India and Sri Lanka, starting from September 30 and ending on November 2. The live announcement of India's squad for the Women's World Cup can be watched on Star Sports.
Meanwhile, the announcement of the India men's squad for the Asia Cup 2025 was originally scheduled for 1:30 pm IST but is delayed due to adverse weather conditions in Mumbai. More information about the Indian women's cricket team for the 2025 World Cup is yet to be announced. Stay tuned for updates.
