Live updates on the SA20 2026 auction: Comprehensive roster of players sold and unsold, remaining budget, and updated team lineups
It's September 9, 2025, and the SA20 auction is underway in Johannesburg. The clock is ticking as teams race to build their rosters for the upcoming season.
The biggest purse of USD 1.86 million belongs to Pretoria Capitals, who have already made a splash by securing Dewald Brevis for a staggering R16.5 million, setting a new record for the highest bid in the auction.
The auctioneer's gavel fell swiftly as Pretoria Capitals bought Lizaad Williams for R2.4M, beating out multiple bidders. Williams, a talented all-rounder, is expected to bolster Pretoria's batting lineup.
Joburg Super Kings and MI Cape Town also made significant moves, securing Reeza Hendricks and Tony de Zorzi, respectively, for R3.50 million each. Hendricks was bought at his base price, while de Zorzi was scooped up for R200K by Durban Super Giants.
However, not all players found a home in the initial bidding. Rillee Rossouw, Kyle Verreynne, Sonny Baker, and Moeen Ali were among those who went unsold. Unsold players nominated by the teams will have one final chance to be picked up.
Each team in the SA20 2026 auction has a remaining budget of $1 million for player signings. The teams have been asked to resubmit a list of players they might want for one last time.
The squad requirements are 19-player squads, minimum of two Under-23 South African players, a maximum of seven overseas players, and at least nine local South Africans, and an additional Wildcard player.
Paarl Royals have been active, acquiring Asa Tribe, Keagan Lion-Cachet, Eathan Bosch, and Delano Potgieter. They also outbid Sangakkara to secure Ottneil Baartman for R5.10M in a heated bidding war.
The auction is moving at a brisk pace, with each round scheduled to begin every 10 minutes. The next round is set to start soon, and Gerald Coetzee is up next. The Paarl Royals group has been urged to hurry up by the auctioneer.
The auction is expected to continue until all players find a team, and teams have filled their rosters. Stay tuned for more updates as the SA20 auction unfolds!
