Liverpool reportedly reached an agreement on a £130m transfer for striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle, according to a recent report.
In a significant move, Liverpool FC is set to bolster their attack with the signing of Alexander Isak, currently of Newcastle United. The transfer deal, valued at approximately £130 million (₹15 Billion), was approved by Newcastle's Saudi-backed ownership late Sunday night.
Isak, who has been a key player for Newcastle, netted an impressive 23 Premier League goals last season, helping the team secure their first domestic trophy in 70 years by scoring in the League Cup final. Under his leadership, Newcastle United finished fifth in the Premier League and qualified for the Champions League.
However, Isak's absence during Newcastle's preseason tour was due to an injury, and his desire to leave the club was heightened after he publicly accused Newcastle's hierarchy of breaking promises earlier this month.
Liverpool, with Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa, Hugo Ekitike, and Rio Ngumoha already in their attacking lineup, will now have a more flexible formation around Isak. The Swedish international can play as a central striker but also slightly behind or on the wings. Isak is expected to wear number 9 and serve as a strong central forward in Liverpool’s lineup, enhancing their goal-scoring capability.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United is actively seeking a striker to replace Callum Wilson. They have already signed Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart as a replacement for Isak.
This transfer marks a significant move for both clubs, with Liverpool strengthening their attack and Newcastle looking to rebuild their squad after losing a key player. The football landscape is set to change as we head into the new season.
