Living as the captain of a unique, personal houseboat is my daily experience.
In 2017, Jessica Hoppe made a significant leap into the luxury travel industry when she joined Crystal Cruises as General Counsel. Fast forward to 2024, she is now the President and CEO of The World Residences at Sea, a title she earned in June of that year.
The World, a private residential ship owned by ResidenSea Ltd. and managed by its parent company, Rowland & Company Ltd., is the only ship of its kind in the world. Hoppe and her family split their time between their home in Florida and life aboard The World, with approximately 75% of their time spent in Florida and 25% on the ship.
Before joining The World, Hoppe spent two decades working in law, government affairs, and luxury travel. Her career took her to New York in 2007, where she served as General Counsel. Over the next decade, she also held the position of SVP for Government Affairs and PR for a resort company.
Hoppe's daily routine at sea is filled with meetings, meals, and exploration. She starts her day with breakfast meetings with residents, followed by sessions with her team. The crew on The World works seven days a week, and Hoppe is no exception. In her free time, she enjoys taking short walks on the ship's deck or in the office building during breaks.
When the day is done, Hoppe heads to the gym for a workout. After her time at the gym, she spends a few extra minutes to unwind before retiring to her cabin. She usually goes to sleep at 10:00 PM and aims for six to seven hours of sleep during the week.
Weekends on The World are a bit more relaxed. Hoppe catches up on work while her children sleep, but she makes sure to mark emails as "for Monday" to avoid pressuring her team. When her children wake up, they enjoy watching '80s classics like "Top Gun" and "The Goonies" with their mother.
On land, Hoppe's daily routine involves checking emails and messages from the ship, preparing and packing lunch, and responding to messages from her team, board members, or residents. She makes sure to log off at 6:00 PM to focus on family time, whether that's spending weekends at the beach or attending birthday parties.
Hoppe also maintains a strong connection with her parents, who live in the USA Midwest. She regularly contacts them to keep them updated on her life and the exciting journey aboard The World.
In 2022, Hoppe was promoted from her role as General Counsel and Strategy Vice President to Chief Administrative Officer before taking on the role of President and CEO in June 2024. Her dedication, leadership, and passion for the luxury travel industry continue to steer The World towards new horizons.
