Funen, the third-largest island in Denmark, is a picturesque destination that offers a unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Located southwest of Copenhagen, Funen is easily accessible with daily flights from Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle to Copenhagen, followed by a 2-hour drive to Funen.

The island, often referred to as "Denmark's Garden," boasts over 1,100 kilometers of coastline and an impressive historical heritage. Funen is home to 123 castles and manors, including the iconic Egeskov Castle, which offers guided tours, outdoor activities, interactive exhibitions, and festivals.

Odense, the capital city of Funen, is a must-visit. It is where Hans Christian Andersen, the author of famous fairy tales such as "The Little Mermaid" and "The Ugly Duckling," was born in 1805. The city has preserved the memory of its famous writer by offering a cultural trail and a museum dedicated to him. The street food market of Odense, called Storms Pakhus, offers local and international gourmet specialties in a warm Danish atmosphere.

Visiting Funen all year round offers different charms. Autumn brings a poetic setting with fiery forests and lantern-adorned villages. However, the best time to visit Funen is during the spring or summer months, when the island reveals its full splendor.

The Funen archipelago, consisting of a hundred small islands, is another gem worth exploring. Some of these islands are among the most picturesque in Denmark and offer breathtaking panoramas that can be admired by kayak, bicycle, or local ferries.

One such island is Ærø, famous for its colorful village of Ærøskøbing. The island of Funen is also home to the UNESCO-recognized geopark of the Funen archipelago, officially recognized as a global territory in March 2024.

Funen is one of the few places in the world where you can practice "bridge walking." This unique activity allows visitors to experience the island from a different perspective, adding an extra thrill to your visit.

Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or a food enthusiast, Funen offers something for everyone. So, pack your bags and get ready to explore Denmark's Garden!
