Lucy Connolly expresses her enthusiasm for potential collaboration with Reform UK at their conference
Lucy Connolly Makes a Stir at Reform UK Conference
Lucy Connolly, a former childminder who gained public attention for a controversial social media post related to mass deportations, made a dramatic return to the political scene at the Reform UK conference last month.
Connolly, who was released from jail last month after serving a 380-day sentence for stirring up racial hatred against asylum seekers, entered the stage to significant applause. She has since been described by Allison Pearson as a "political prisoner," and remains politically active within Reform UK.
During her live interview for a podcast, Connolly referenced an incident in Liverpool where she and a friend were accosted by men staying in a hotel. She questioned the police presence in the incident and expressed concern about the police not being present when illegal immigrants were accosting people. Connolly also expressed her concern about unchecked immigration being a danger to children.
Lord Justice Holroyde stated there was no arguable basis for Connolly's sentence being considered manifestly excessive. A legal challenge against her sentence was dismissed in May.
Connolly explained to the police that she didn't have a problem with immigration, only illegal, unchecked immigration. She expressed her desire to work with Reform UK in the future.
The audience at the Reform UK conference cheered when Connolly revealed she voted for the party at the last election. Richard Tice, the deputy leader of Reform UK, welcomed Connolly's comments and expressed hope for her potential contribution to the party. He believes Connolly has a huge opportunity to help Reform and the cause of free speech.
A bizarre stunt occurred at the conference, involving the performance of a self-written song by the Reform mayor. Despite the unusual occurrence, the focus remained on Connolly and her political views.
However, Nigel Farage, not specified as a member of Reform UK, called on the party to "keep disagreements private" as the conference closed with the national anthem. Connolly was also asked about the distortion of police evidence in her case, but declined to comment.
Connolly's return to the political scene has sparked debate and controversy, but one thing is clear: she is a figure who continues to divide opinion, yet captures the attention of many.
