Ludwig holds the title of "Preferred Vote's Emperor", with Nepp in the runner-up position.

In the recent Vienna state election, Mayor Michael Ludwig not only clinched the victory with SPÖ, but he received an impressive number of preference votes, a feat that rarely occurs. An astounding 10,326 SPÖ voters personally endorsed our city chief. Trailing behind was Dominik Nepp, the FPÖ leader, with 8,171 votes, followed by Judith Pühringer, the Green Party's top candidate, with 4,394 votes.

Karl Mahrer, the ÖVP top candidate, failed to make a significant impact, managing only 1,744 personal mentions. This placed him behind Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling, who garnered 1,437 preference votes as the best NEOS candidate.

Interestingly, six SPÖ candidates outshone Mahrer in terms of personal endorsements, including Kathrin Gaal, Peter Hacker, Peter Hanke, Asliha Bozatemur, and Jürgen Czernohorszky. The former Freedom Party leader, Heinz-Christian Strache, secured fewer votes (679) than the top three KPÖ-LINCS candidates. LINKS politician Angelika Adensamer, however, topped the KPÖ-LINCS list with 961 votes.

A comparison with the results from five years ago revealed a significant drop in preference votes. Ludwig, then, was named more than 15,000 times, while Gernot Blümel, the then ÖVP top candidate, had a higher value with 11,336 mentions. The Green Party's frontwoman Birgit Hebein received 7,076 expressions of support, and NEOS top candidate Christoph Wiederkehr came in with 3,110. Despite this, Nepp was able to more than double his personal result of 3,790.

Asliha Bozatemur, considered the SPÖ's link to the Turkish community, once again impressed with 1,527 preference votes, the same as Transport Minister Peter Hanke. Omar Al-Rawi, a long-time city councilor and former top official of the Islamic religious community, also saw strong support with 1,185 mentions.
