Luminous Aura Enshrouds Neckar and Castle
The city of Heidelberg, Germany, is gearing up for two mesmerising events in 2025 and 2026 – the Heidelberg Castle Illuminations. This spectacle, scheduled for September 6, 2025, and July 11th and September 5th in 2026, promises to be a memorable experience for both locals and international visitors.
Traffic disruptions may occur after the events due to cleanup activities on the Neckar bridges. To ensure a smooth experience, it's essential to plan your journey accordingly.
For those interested in exploring the city, a cabrio bus tour is available. Departing from Karlsplatz, the tour offers a ten-language guide through Heidelberg, running every 30 minutes from 10:00 to 17:00. City tours and castle tours will also be available at specific times, with tickets available online at www.heidelberg-marketing.de.
The illumination of the castle and fireworks from the Old Bridge are anticipated highlights of the event. Pedestrians from the old town side can reach the Nepomuk Terrace on the Newheim side via the weir (near Karlstor). However, please note that parking on the old town side under the Old Bridge, as well as east and west of the Old Bridge, will be prohibited from 2 PM. The Old Bridge will be completely closed to pedestrians and all traffic from 4 PM.
Other attractions include an arts and crafts market on the Kornmarkt from 11:00 to 20:00, and live music by the band "Red Hot Dixie Devils" on the Nepomuk terrace from 18:00. Unfortunately, parking on the Nepomuk Terrace is not available.
The B37 federal road along the old town to Karlstor and the Theodor-Heuss Bridge will be closed to all vehicle traffic from approximately 9:30 PM and 10 PM respectively. Bruckenkopf Street from Brucken Street, Ziegelhäuser Landstraße to Stiftweg, as well as the Neuenheimer Landstraße and the Uferstraße will also be closed to vehicle traffic from 8:30 PM. All closures will be lifted by approximately 11:30 PM after the event.
