Lunar eclipse total phase will be observable on September 7
Get ready for a celestial spectacle as Russia prepares to witness a series of total lunar eclipses this September. The first event will grace the skies of Krasnodar region and all of Russia on September 7, marking the first total lunar eclipse for Russians in the last seven years.
The eclipse will begin at 18:28 Moscow time on September 7 and will reach its maximum phase at 21:12, during which the Moon will be completely hidden in Earth's shadow, turning a characteristic reddish hue. This total lunar eclipse is expected to be the longest in the last three years.
Residents of Krasnodar can head to Rождественская набережная near ЮМР, where a telescope will be set up, allowing them not only to observe the Moon but also Saturn during the eclipse. No special equipment is required to observe the eclipse; it can be seen with the naked eye, although using binoculars or a telescope will enhance the experience.
Weather forecasts predict clear skies in Kuban on September 7, creating favourable conditions for observation. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the eclipses on September 19 and 21, as the total lunar eclipse on the 19th will not be visible in the Krasnodar region or all of Russia, while the eclipse on the 21st will only be visible in the eastern part of Russia.
The eclipse on September 7 will end at 23:55 on September 7, with the Moon rising above the horizon in Kuban around 19:00, already noticeably dimmed during the eclipse. This event marks the first of three total lunar eclipses expected in September, with another expected on September 19 and 21.
While there is no information about the astronomer or astronomers who predicted the total lunar eclipse at the Moscow Observatory on September 7, one thing is certain: the skies above Russia will be a sight to behold this September. So mark your calendars and prepare for a celestial show unlike any other.
