Here's a fresh lowdown on the growing issue of bed bug infestations shaking up Vegas' Strip hotels!

At the very heart of Sin City, luxury meets litigation as the Luxor Hotel and Casino and Treasure Island face lawsuits from guests claiming to be bitten by bed bugs during their stay.

Stephen and Courtney Gully of Illinois endured a less-than-thrilling vacation at the Luxor between June 7 and June 10, 2024, followed by Brianna McKenzie who stayed there from July 16 to July 18. Meanwhile, Teresa Bruce from Los Angeles had a furry, somewhat unsavory encounter at Treasure Island from June 20 to June 23. All three lawsuits, filed on April 29, 2025, in the Clark County Court, are managed by the same attorney, Brian Virag.

Bugging Out: The Pesky Critters Hide Where You Least Suspect

Ever wondered where such blood-sucking arthropods hide? Well, they thrive in and around slightly-neglected—or so humanity mistakenly considers—mattresses. Devoid of mercy, these bed bugs feast on human and animal blood by piercing through their hosts with their sharp mouthparts.

Distinguished by their unpleasant fecal smears on bedding and a nasty sickening sweet raspberry-like scent, bed bugs can leave you itching and scratching for days on end. Their bites may also trigger allergic reactions and, in some unfortunate cases, leave permanent scars.

A Growing List of Bitten Vegas Hotels

If recent reports by the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) dating back to October 2024 are any indication, bed bugs aren't strictly confined to the budget hotels. The Bellagio, Cosmopolitan, Resorts World, and Hilton Grand Vacation Club saw bed bug trouble from February through August 2024.

Sadly, the list doesn't end there. As of recent updates, 19 renowned Las Vegas Strip resorts have been exposed to bed bugs since 2021. These establishments include: Caesars Palace, Circus Circus, Encore, Excalibur, MGM Grand, Mirage, Palazzo, Park MGM, Planet Hollywood, Sahara, The Strat, Tropicana, and Venetian.

According to the lawsuit filed by the Gullys, Courtney was left with a swollen throat so severe it felt like it was closing. A hospital visit followed, necessitated by fears of infestation, with treatments rendered in the parking lot. Those pesky bed bugs really know how to interrupt your casino games, don't they?!

In the case of Bruce at Treasure Island, the risk management team was summoned after her complaints, verifying the presence of bed bugs. Despite the move to another room, Brianna allegedly discovered further bites the following day—reports claim that the replacement room, too, was compromised.

So What's the Score?

Virag simply states, "[The hotel operator] has a responsibility to make sure that [the room] is bed bug-free, regardless of the room price." The plaintiffs allege that the bed bugs have not only affected them physically but also left emotional scars that warrant financial compensation.

With these latest lawsuits, it's becoming increasingly critical for hotel management to ensure the cleanliness and safety of their accommodation. Clearly, when visiting Vegas, keep your eyes peeled for unwanted, tiny guests that can turn your trip of a lifetime into a nightmare!
