Major action in Taunusstein: a 41-year-old man admitted to a specialized medical facility
In the heart of Taunusstein-Neuhof, an unexpected incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon, prompting a large-scale response from emergency services.
The day began with a 41-year-old resident reporting an unidentified substance in his apartment. This alarming discovery led to a rapid deployment of police, firefighters, and emergency services around Gartenstraße at around 2 pm. The Rheingau-Taunus Fire Department and the West Hessian Police Presidency were among the first responders.
The unidentified substance triggered a major response, with approximately 200 personnel from the fire department, police, and emergency services involved. As a precaution, firefighters evacuated the building and adjacent houses, and the police cordoned off the Gartenstraße and surrounding streets.
Residents showed great understanding and provided drinks and supplies to the helpers, demonstrating a remarkable spirit of community during this challenging time. Affected residents were cared for in the Aartalhalle and a collection point in the town.
Landrat Sandro Zehner and Taunussteins Mayor Joachim Reimann visited the scene to assess the situation. Initial readings showed no signs of elevated radiation or hazardous material levels, offering a glimmer of hope.
After extensive testing, it was confirmed that no hazardous materials were present in the apartment. However, it could not be ruled out that hazardous substances were present in the building, and the operation in Taunusstein-Neuhof was concluded after five hours.
Fortunately, no further hazardous substances were found in the building or surrounding area. The 41-year-old resident who reported the alleged substance was in a state of psychological distress, and he was subsequently referred to a specialized clinic.
Local officials personally thanked the emergency services for their swift and effective response. The warning for residents to stay indoors was lifted around 7 pm, marking the end of this unexpected incident in Taunusstein-Neuhof.
