Majority of Romanians perceive economic shifts impacting their way of living, according to a study
In early August 2025, a comprehensive online survey was conducted among urban internet users in Romania, aged 18 and above, to gauge the economic situation and its impact on people's daily lives. The study, which ran from August 14-20, 2025, surveyed a total of 1,058 participants.
The survey revealed that 49% of Romanians have reduced their everyday spending to cope with financial pressures, while 41% have postponed major investments. Moreover, 38% of Romanians have cancelled vacations and leisure activities, and 30% express worry about their financial situation.
Uncertainty about the future is a significant concern for 18% of Romanians, as they grapple with a lack of predictability. On the other hand, 23% of the respondents showed determination to find solutions to their financial challenges.
Rising living costs are the primary concern for 51% of the population, with high taxes and duties being a worry for 20%. Young people aged 18-34 in Romania are particularly concerned about employment opportunities.
The study did not provide information on the reasons behind the participants' economic recovery expectations, nor did it survey rural residents or those without internet access. It also did not provide data on the economic recovery expectations of Romanians in specific industries or professions, different regions of the country, or the economic recovery expectations of Romanians aged 35 and above.
The survey did not specify the demographic breakdown of the participants beyond age and urban residence. However, it is worth noting that 84% of Romanians report changes to their daily lives due to economic conditions, and 24% report feelings of insecurity.
Looking ahead, 45% of Romanians maintain moderate optimism about the economy's recovery, expecting the process to take more than a year. Meanwhile, 41% of Romanians believe conditions will not improve over the next 12 months and may continue deteriorating.
This study provides valuable insights into the economic challenges facing Romanians and offers a snapshot of the nation's economic outlook. However, further research is needed to fully understand the complexities of the situation and to develop effective strategies for economic recovery.
