"Mamata Banerjee Criticized for Remarks on Prime Minister Role": Criticism for Mamata Banerjee over Prime Ministerial Statement

In a surprising turn of events, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been accused by the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) of going soft on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This comes after Banerjee's recent comments that cleared Modi of any blame in examinations that might cause business owners to leave India.

The political landscape in West Bengal has been shaken, with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) facing criticism from opposition parties. The BJP has taken the line that the Prime Minister's statement was an effort at appeasement, while the Congress was particularly critical. Party leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury called Banerjee a "Trojan horse" in the resistance layer.

Banerjee, however, has blamed BJP leaders for the situation, specifically mentioning the CBI records to the Union Home Ministry, which is managed by Amit Shah, not the Prime Minister's Office. Chowdhury claimed that Banerjee is holding out an olive branch to the Prime Minister out of desperation, and that her image as a politician who holds the values of honesty and integrity has been shattered.

The TMC, in response, has claimed that there is no question of going soft on PM Modi. Resources in the party stated that Banerjee was speaking from the perspective of economics, as she is trying to bring investment to Bengal.

The relationship between Banerjee and Chowdhury is particularly bitter, reflecting the ideological and political rivalry between the TMC and the CPM. The CPM claims that the TMC was born as a spin-off of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1998.

The situation in West Bengal, where the judicial dispensation has been challenging the actions of the central agencies, has reportedly rattled the TMC. Sujan Chakraborty, CPM leader, stated that people who do not know the internal events and chemistry of the TMC or Mamata Banerjee with PM Modi may be upset.

Despite the political tensions, Banerjee has allied with parties like the Indian National Congress and various regional parties in the past. However, the RSS has been generally opposed to her political stance and Bengal's Trinamool Congress.

The BJP, meanwhile, has dismissed the criticism, stating that nobody in the BJP, not even the President, needs any validation from Mamata Banerjee. The Congress had previously taken to the streets against the misuse of central agencies, but it remains to be seen how this latest development will impact the political landscape in West Bengal.
