Man from Canandaigua faces charges following a UTV accident resulting in injuries to his wife and 10 minors
On the night of August 16, a serious incident occurred on Smith Road when a 2015 John Deere Gator UTV, operated by Michael G. VanBrooker, crashed. The accident resulted in the vehicle rolling and ejecting all occupants, four of whom were juvenile passengers and were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for pain-related complaints and further evaluation.
VanBrooker, a Canandaigua man, was also injured in the crash and was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital. He is now facing a reckless endangerment charge in the second degree, as stated by the Ontario County Sheriff's Office. Deputies from the same office also claimed that VanBrooker had been drinking before the crash.
An appearance ticket was issued for VanBrooker to return to Canandaigua Town Court.
The crash required the immediate response of multiple emergency services, including Cheshire Fire, Canandaigua Emergency Squad, Naples Ambulance, Richmond Ambulance, East Bloomfield Ambulance, and at least two additional services.
This incident brought together a total of six emergency services to ensure the safety and well-being of those involved. The community's emergency responders worked tirelessly to attend to the injured and manage the scene of the accident.
Our thoughts are with those affected by this unfortunate incident. As the investigation continues, we encourage everyone to drive safely and responsibly, especially when operating vehicles that can carry multiple passengers.
