An unidentified Illinois grandfather has become the latest winner of a million-dollar prize from the Illinois iLottery. The lucky man won the sum by matching all five winning numbers for the March 30 Powerball drawing.
The winning numbers for the drawing were 12-13-33-50-52, and the Powerball number was 23. The man's life-changing moment came when he checked his Powerball ticket on his app at home on a Saturday night.
At first, the grandfather saw an older ticket in his account saying 'You're A Winner!'. He was initially unsure of its significance, but after confirming the numbers with his wife, he realised he had won a substantial amount.
His wife, reading out the winnings, confirmed that he had won a million dollars. The Illinois iLottery described the winner as an "Illinois grandfather."
The man's immediate plans for his winnings are to spoil his four grandkids. He is considering taking them to Disney World, but has yet to make a final decision.
If the grandfather had also matched the Powerball number, he would have won an even bigger prize. However, he did not, and the current Powerball jackpot stands at $129 million with a cash value of $59.6 million.
The next Powerball drawing is scheduled for April 24. While the chances of winning the Powerball jackpot are extremely slim, with odds of approximately 1 in 292.2 million[2], the Illinois iLottery occasionally awards million-dollar prizes, including Powerball jackpots[1].
