Man sought by authorities, found driving stolen vehicle off-roading in woods.
In an eventful morning on February 8, 2023, Mönchengladbach Police apprehended a 34-year-old man in Wickrather Forest. The arrest came after a series of suspicious events involving a stolen Mercedes.
According to reports, a witness spotted a man stuck with a Mercedes on a forest path around 10:30 AM. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the Mercedes locked and the man unable to identify himself. Suspecting foul play, they took him to the station for identification.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the Mercedes and its license plates were reported stolen. The officers also found the matching car keys during their search of the suspect. Inside the vehicle, they uncovered jewelry and watches, suspected to be stolen goods.
The suspect, it was revealed, was wanted on an arrest warrant. Further investigations revealed that he is a 34-year-old man against whom multiple arrest warrants exist, including for drug, burglary, and traffic offenses. He is a resident of Apolda, Germany, and had 15 arrest warrants from the Erfurt public prosecutor's office. These warrants were enforced with the help of a friend who paid fines, sparing him a longer prison stay.
During the brief pursuit, the suspect resisted and even fled on foot when officers approached the tractor he was thought to be in. However, the officers managed to apprehend him. A doctor took a blood sample from the suspect at the station, suggesting that he may have been intoxicated or drug-impaired.
Additionally, officers found an unloaded firearm in a bag on the back seat of the Mercedes. The case is currently under further investigation, and the suspect is being held in a detention facility.
This incident serves as a reminder of the diligence and vigilance of the Mönchengladbach Police in maintaining law and order in their community.
