March 2025 Auto Sales Highlight: Bajaj Auto Sets New Record for Monthly Electric Vehicle Sales

Bajaj Auto, the Indian automobile giant, has announced the launch of new affordable variants of its popular electric scooter, the Chetak, this year. The move is expected to further bolster Bajaj's position in the growing electric two-wheeler market.

The Chetak, known for its iconic design and comparatively lower cost of ownership, is currently available in two variants: the 3501 and the 3502. The ex-showroom prices for these variants stand at ₹1.28 lakh and ₹1.20 lakh, respectively.

In March 2025, the average number of Chetak deliveries per day was 1,124, reflecting the growing demand for these electric scooters. Bajaj Auto's record fiscal growth of 116 per cent resulted in a total of 2,30,761 units being retailed in FY25. The company surpassed the 2,00,000 milestone for the first time in a fiscal year, thanks to consistent growth throughout the year.

The new Chetak variants come equipped with a bigger battery, part of the new 35 series. This improvement addresses range anxiety and enhances charger speed. The battery allows for a claimed range of 153 km, providing ample distance for daily commutes. It takes 3 hours to charge from 0-80 per cent.

Bajaj Auto's electric two-wheeler share nearly doubled from 11 per cent in FY24 to 20 per cent in FY25. The new, affordable electric motorcycle developed by Bajaj is the electric version of the Boxer commuter bike, which currently contributes to a 20% electric market share. Additionally, electric versions of the Pulsar are also in development.

The Chetak's impressive sales performance has made Bajaj the monthly champion in EV sales for the third time in the fiscal year and for the second month running. In March 2025, Bajaj retailed 34,863 units of Chetaks, marking the highest ever monthly EV sales for the brand.

TVS came in at number two, retailing 30,453 units of EVs last month, while Ola rounded off the top three by retailing 23,430 units of EVs.

Bajaj is committed to making the Chetak more accessible to the masses by developing new, affordable variants. Upon launch, these new variants should help Bajaj cement its position as the number one electric two-wheeler manufacturer.
