Teknofest Blue Homeland Kicks Off in Istanbul

The four-day technological, aviation, and space festival Teknofest Blue Homeland has begun in Istanbul, Turkey, on August 28, 2023. The event, which showcases Turkey's naval strength and cutting-edge technologies, is being held from August 28-31.

The festival was officially opened by Selçuk Bayraktar, the chairman of the Teknofest Board and the board of the Türkiye Technology Team Foundation. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also delivered opening speeches at the event.

Teknofest Blue Homeland is a maritime-themed edition of Teknofest, and this year's event is taking place in various locations, including several Turkish cities, Azerbaijan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Visitors to the festival are limited to one session, with available times being 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on August 30 and August 31, when the event is open to the public.

Competitions during the festival will feature unmanned underwater systems, underwater rockets, and autonomous maritime vehicles. The "Blue Homeland" Painting Competition is a part of Teknofest, targeting elementary and middle school students. The theme for the painting competition is "blue homeland," which outlines Turkey's maritime jurisdictions, exclusive economic zone, and continental shelf in accordance with U.N. resolutions.

The winning entries of the competition will be shared on NSosyal, a new Turkish social media platform. Selcuk Bayraktar, chairperson of Teknofest's board of directors, announced special tours of Turkish ships for the winners of the event on his NSosyal account.

The event follows a mega parade by naval vessels in Istanbul, and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is expected to address the event later on Thursday. The Turkish Naval Forces Command will exhibit several advanced vessels, such as the TCG Anadolu amphibious assault ship, TCG Istanbul frigate, TCG Burgazada anti-submarine corvette, TCG Oruçreis frigate, TCG Nusret minelayer, TCG Sakarya, and TCG Hızırreis submarines.

The competition aims to help students develop their imaginative and expressive abilities through painting, and special competitions aiming to promote understanding of Turkey's maritime jurisdiction areas among younger generations will also be organized, including essay writing and original painting contests on the "Blue Homeland" theme.

A new edition of Teknofest is planned to be held in Istanbul next month.
