Marlins outclass Mets, securing a victory of 5-1 and claiming a 3-1 series triumph, thanks to Alcantara's stellar 7-inning pitching performance.

The Miami Marlins secured a 5-1 victory over the New York Mets in a game that saw its fair share of tension. The win moved the Marlins closer to the National League wild card race, while the Mets' lead over Cincinnati in the same competition narrowed to four games.

Sandy Alcantara delivered a strong performance for the Marlins, pitching seven innings and allowing only one run. His ERA now stands at 2.82 in his last eight starts, demonstrating his consistent form.

On the other side, the Mets' starting pitcher, LHP Sean Manaea, had a less impressive outing, giving up five runs in 6 1/3 innings.

The Marlins' offensive highlight came in the third inning, when Agustín Ramírez smashed a two-run homer. The Mets' lone run was scored in the first inning courtesy of Otto Lopez's sacrifice fly against Kodai Senga.

The Mets' struggles continued in August, finishing the month with a record of 11-17 despite scoring 177 runs and hitting 53 homers.

In the realm of debuts, LHP Andrew Alvarez is set to make his major league debut for the Nationals on Monday, while the Mets are expected to start Nolan McLean, making his MLB debut as a right-handed pitcher against the Mariners at Citi Field. The Marlins have yet to announce their starter for Monday's game against Washington.

RHP Charlie Morton will start for the Detroit Tigers against the Mets, while Senga will take the mound for the Nationals. Senga's recent form has seen him struggle, allowing five runs in 4 2/3 innings in his last start and giving up at least five runs in two of his last three starts. However, it's worth noting that in his first 49 major league starts, Senga allowed five or more runs only once.
