Massive Map Enlargement and AI Integration Marks Years of Progress for Zwift

Zwift Unveils Major Update, Expanding New York Game World and Introducing AI

Zwift, the popular online fitness platform, has announced a significant update set to launch on October 27. This update marks a new era for Zwift, as it aims to transform the platform into a comprehensive fitness tool, moving beyond its traditional focus on FTP tests.

The expansion of the New York game world is the highlight of this update, marking Zwift's largest map expansion in years. The new zone takes users to Prospect Park, south of Manhattan, adding 31km of roads to the platform. This expansion includes 20 routes, four of which are designed specifically for runners.

One of the most intriguing features of the update is the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the platform. The AI-driven weekly goals are optional, allowing users to switch between concrete and auto-adjusting goals using a slider in the app. These goals adjust based on the user's progress in distance or calories burnt, providing a personalised fitness experience.

To make the platform even more user-friendly, Zwift has introduced a Tune button. This feature displays recommended workouts, routes, events, and Robo Pacer rides, making it easier for users to find suitable fitness activities.

From November, Zwift will offer Personalized Recommendations based on recent activity and workout patterns. These recommendations are designed to help users avoid scrolling through lists of workouts, providing a more streamlined fitness experience.

In a move to make the platform more accessible, the Brompton World Championship is now included, allowing users to ride a Brompton bike within the game. Additionally, Zwift can pull in data from Garmin, Wahoo, Strava, or Hammerhead to factor in workouts performed off the platform.

The developer behind this update is Side, a co-development studio specialising in AI-powered services. Side acquired Ghostpunch Games and focuses on integrating AI into game development workflows.

This update is a testament to Zwift's commitment to innovation and its goal of providing a comprehensive, personalised, and enjoyable fitness experience for its users.
