Matt Barrett, the proprietor of Beanies, undergoes balding in support of Les Bourgs
In the heart of Guernsey, the opening night of Musical Theatre Guernsey's rendition of 'Calendar Girls' took place last night, with performances scheduled until the 6th of September. Among the cast is Matthew Barrett, who has taken his dedication to the production a step further by shaving his head for the role and raising funds for Les Bourgs Hospice.
Matthew Barrett's head shave has been a significant fundraiser, managing to raise just over £2,200 for the charity at the time of writing. A substantial portion of these funds came from Mr. Barrett's customers from his mobile coffee and bakery business, Beanies.
Rob Jones, CEO of Les Bourgs Hospice, emphasized the importance of such fundraisers, stating, "It is so important to raise awareness of what we do and that we really do need the funds." He further added, "Fundraisers like Matt's pay for specialist nursing."
Mr. Barrett, who is playing a character with blood cancer in the production, finds the head shave liberating despite it being a significant part of his identity. He has been humbled by the public support for his fundraiser.
Andy Knight, the CEO of Les Bourgs Hospice in Guernsey, expressed his gratitude, saying, "We are incredibly grateful for Matthew's efforts. The funds raised will be used to support the crucial services provided by Les Bourgs Hospice."
The quote "keep rolling onwards and forever" is a line from the musical 'Calendar Girls' and refers to the importance of ongoing fundraising for Les Bourgs Hospice. Mr. Barrett's fundraiser page can be found online on Giving.gg.
Jones reiterated the need for continuous awareness and support, saying, "We need to keep rolling onwards and forever to ensure we can continue to provide the care that Les Bourgs Hospice is known for."
