Maxipark to Introduce MaxiGarden Installation
In the heart of Hamm, a significant transformation is underway at Maximilian Park. The city's beloved green space is set to undergo an expansion that promises to enhance its appeal and promote climate-resilient gardening.
The expansion, which includes a MaxiPlaza, MaxiGarden, and an education building, is a collaborative effort aimed at creating a more sustainable and resilient environment. Climate-resilient plants, rainwater storage, and microclimate adaptation are key elements of the project.
Jörg Rogalla, CEO of Maxipark, has assured that climate resilience will not compromise the high aesthetic and qualitative standards of the park. He emphasised that the park will continue to be a beautiful and welcoming space for visitors.
The project has received a significant boost with a 5.5 million euro federal funding, approved by Federal Minister of Housing Verena Hubertz. Michael Thews, MP for Constituency Hamm - Unna II, expressed his pleasure about the grant, stating that the Maxipark project will create a place where leisure, education, and sustainability come together.
The Maxipark project, as mentioned by Nina Frense, CEO of IGA Metropole Ruhr 2027 GmbH, aims to explore how municipalities can design parks in a future-proof manner in the face of climate change. Frense also stated that the Maxipark expansion will develop into a centre of competence with an international claim.
Andreas Mentz, City Building Director of Hamm, expressed gratitude for the extraordinary commitment and passion of his colleagues in the Building Department for the project. He noted that the expansion will shift focus from gravel gardens towards more biodiversity.
Monika Simhäuser, Maxipark Supervisory Board Chairwoman, mentioned that an integral part of environmental education will be a kitchen in the training building. This will provide a hands-on learning experience for visitors, teaching them about sustainable food production and consumption.
The project development and properties for the Maxipark expansion can be contacted at Gustav-Heinemann-Straße 105, 9065 Hamm. Further information about the Maxipark expansion can be found in the service portal.
With over 450,000 visitors per year and influences hundreds of thousands of people from various regions, the Maximilian Park expansion is set to make a significant impact, promoting climate-resilient gardening and sustainable management of personal green spaces.
