Mayor-elect Nick Derzis reveals his transition team in Hoover
Mayor-Elect Nick Derzis will officially be sworn into office on Monday, November 3. Prior to his election, Derzis served as Hoover's police chief for over two decades. In preparation for his new role, Derzis has announced the formation of a Transition Team to guide his administration.
The Transition Team will focus on key areas including education and workforce development, public safety, economic growth, infrastructure, fiscal accountability, parks and recreation, and quality of life. The team is committed to the city and its residents, and reflects the strengths of Hoover in its schools, neighborhoods, businesses, and civic institutions.
Michael J. Davis is the Chairman of the Transition Team, with B.J. Ellis serving as vice chairman. The members of the transition commission committees for Mayor-elect Nick Derzis include a range of local leaders, experts, and community representatives appointed to assist in the transition process. However, exact names and positions have not been publicly detailed as of yet.
Kermit Kendrick will head the education and workforce development committee, joined by Dr. Jennifer Hogan, Craig Kelley, Dr. Tyler Burgess, and Elizabeth Tanner. Scott Promer, PE, MBA, will oversee the water and transportation infrastructure committee, joined by Lanier Brown, Esq., and Dewayne Smith.
Frank Barfield will lead the public safety and city services committee, with the support of Craig Caldwell and Allen Pate. David Bannister will direct the quality of life, beautification, and civic engagement committee, supported by David Cohen, Glen Durough, Sanjay Patel, Kim Starling, Scott Underwood, and Ralph Williams.
Don Erwin will chair the economic development committee, working alongside Greg Barker, Commissioner Mike Bolin, and Alan Paquette. Pete Derzis and Craig Moss will serve as co-chairs for sports, tourism, parks, and recreation committee, working with Tynette Lynch and Greg Blackman. Melinda Lopez will lead the transparency, risk, and fiscal accountability committee, supported by Steve Lawrence and Frank Long.
Charlie Waldrep, Esq. is providing legal counsel for the Transition Team. The group held its first meeting on Wednesday, September 3.
Derzis ran for mayor on a promise to bring greater transparency to City Hall and to make Hoover the standard of excellence in Alabama once again. With the Transition Team in place, Derzis is well on his way to fulfilling that promise.
