Rory McIlroy, the reigning Masters champion, continued his impressive form at The K Club in Straffan, Co Kildare, Ireland, scoring a bogey-free 66 in the second round of the Amgen Irish Open. His round, which included four birdies in his closing six holes, places him in second place, just one stroke behind half-way leader Joakim Lagergren of Sweden.

Lagerren, who shot a brilliant 62 in the first two rounds, holds a 12-under-par 132 total. McIlroy, who won the Irish Open at The K Club in 2016 and finished runner-up by a shot at Royal County Down in 2021, is determined to put himself in contention and give himself another opportunity to win.

The crowds at The K Club were energized by McIlroy's performance, with fans packing the grandstands and standing five- and six-deep behind the ropes. Homemade signs displayed messages of adoration for the local hero, such as "Grand Slam Champion, welcome home!"

McIlroy, known for writing his own scripts and performing the lead role in golf tournaments, reflected on his past experiences at Irish golf events, such as the Golf Union of Ireland days and Irish amateur team weekends at Carton House. He expressed his appreciation for the support and atmosphere at The K Club.

The Amgen Irish Open, which is being held at The K Club in 2022, has seen past winners such as Pádraig Harrington, Francesco Molinari, and Shane Lowry. McIlroy, who won three times on the PGA Tour in the 2022 season, including the Pebble Beach pro-am, The Players, and the Masters, completing the career Grand Slam, is eager to add another title to his collection by winning the Amgen Irish Open.

McIlroy is excited about the opportunity to win the Amgen Irish Open again, having narrowly missed out last year. His electrifying performance in the second round has fueled the electricity of the crowds, as they cheer him on towards another potential victory.
