Medical professionals found guilty of deceiving patients, swindling a total of 1.5 million tenge
In a recent court ruling, a doctor from a multi-profile hospital in the Akmolinsk region has been sentenced for fraud, using his official position to offer paid treatment to a patient. The incident occurred in July, involving a patient suffering from diabetes and acute coronary syndrome.
The patient, who was admitted to the hospital in the Akmolinsk region, was informed by the doctor that she would require the services of a cardiologist. However, the doctor offered to provide the paid treatment without having an appropriate contract, as confirmed by the court's findings.
The patient, in her trust and desperation, transferred a total of 1.5 million tenge for the treatment. The court documents reveal that she transferred a third of the amount the same day and the rest the following day.
The defendant's guilt was confirmed by his confession, the victim's testimony, a cardiologist-resident's testimony, expert conclusions, and material evidence - seized mobile phones. The court also considered the doctor's sincere repentance as a mitigating circumstance.
It is important to note that this case did not involve the use of video badges by doctors or nurses, nor did it involve any accusations of damaging the liver in a Mangistau hospital, as some media outlets have reported.
As a result of his actions, the doctor was sentenced to two years of restriction of freedom. Additionally, the court banned the doctor from practicing medicine for three years. This ruling serves as a reminder of the importance of ethical conduct in the medical profession and the consequences that come with such breaches.
The court's decision underscores the need for transparency and accountability in healthcare services. Patients should be assured that they are receiving the best possible care without any undue influence or financial exploitation. The medical community must strive to uphold the trust and confidence placed in them by the public, ensuring that every patient's welfare is their utmost priority.
