Trollface Artist Signs IP Licensing Deal with TROLL Meme Coin Team

In a significant move for the meme coin industry, Trollface artist Carlos Ramirez has agreed to an IP licensing deal with the TROLL meme coin team. The agreement, signed on August 29, 2025, grants TROLL an exclusive, worldwide license to use the Trollface IP in coin-related images, memes, and merchandise.

The Trollface meme, a cornerstone of early internet culture, symbolising "trolling" someone online, gained immense popularity since its creation in 2008 by Ramirez. He registered Trollface in the U.S. Copyright Office in 2011 and has since earned from the meme via licensing fees, settlements, and other payouts.

Under the terms of the deal, Ramirez will earn an 11% royalty fee on net revenue produced by future TROLL meme coin merchandise. This six-figure deal between Ramirez and Troll Network Limited marks a pivotal moment for the TROLL project, according to Seal, the pseudonymous community takeover lead for TROLL.

The TROLL meme coin team, operating on the Solana blockchain, secured this deal following a community takeover. TROLL surged to a $41 million market capitalization in April 2025, and has since retraced to a roughly $159 million market cap. The meme coin now boasts over 44,000 holders.

Interestingly, Ramirez has refused to endorse the TROLL meme coin project. He has also created his own Trollcoin, although he claims not to be promoting it. Despite this, the deal is a testament to the growing influence of meme coins and the importance of securing the legal rights to core artwork in such projects.

As the TROLL team continues to work on what's next for the meme coin community, this agreement underscores the potential for creative collaborations and revenue streams in the crypto and meme coin space.
