Memorial Gathering of 2024
On September 8, 2024, Koblenz will come alive with history as it hosts the Open Monument Day event. The theme for this year is "True Signs. Witnesses of History".
The day's events are a collaboration between the Department of Monument Conservation, Central Building Management, Koblenz Tourism, German Foundation for Monument Protection, support associations of Fort Asterstein, Fortress Kaiser Franz, and Fort Konstantin, and Rhine Philharmonic.
At 10:00 AM, Matthias Kellermann from the Feste Kaiser Franz Association leads a tour through the Feste Kaiser Franz park, meeting at the Festungspark parking lot on Bodelschwinghstraße. At the same time, a tour titled "Ehrenbreitstein - Between Residence and Garrison" starts at the fountain on the Kapuzinerplatz.
At 11:00 AM, three tours commence: "Stones Tell of Faith - The Coblenz Churches of the Old Town" in front of the Basilica of St. Castor, "Coblenz Landmarks at a Second Glance" in front of the Church of Our Lady, and "On the Trail of the Landmark" from the Tourist Information in the Forum Confluentes. Simultaneously, tours at Fort Asterstein park are offered, guided by "Schorsch", with refreshments provided.
At 11:30 AM, the Pro Konstantin Association offers an additional children's tour for ages 6 to 10 in Fort Konstantin, alongside two general tours. In Fort Konstantin, the Feste Kaiser Franz Association presents the exhibition "Impressions of Demilitarization - Fortress Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein 1920-1922" with photographs by Joseph Ring.
At 1:00 PM, tours continue at Fort Asterstein park, and Michaela Joeres from the Central Building Management presents current restoration work at the Loewentor, Karthause. From 2:00 PM to approximately 5:00 PM, "Atelier mobil e. V." offers activities for children and the youth at the Loewentor, Am Loewentor 15.
At 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM, Michaela Joeres also discusses the restoration work at the Loewentor, Karthause.
At 3:00 PM, the children and family tour "On the Trail of the Landmark" starts at the Tourist Information in the Forum Confluentes, while the Rhine Philharmonic Orchestra performs at the historic Goerres House at Eltzerhofstrasse 6a, with various musical highlights throughout the day.
The event concludes at 5 PM with Michel Tilkin conducting the Rhine Philharmonic Small Band.
