Men's Hockey at Holy Cross Secures Victory Over Canisius, Moves Forward to AHA Semifinals
Holy Cross Men's Hockey Team Advances to Atlantic Hockey Championship Game
The Holy Cross Crusaders men's hockey team is making a surprising run in the Atlantic Hockey playoffs, securing their spot in the championship game after a thrilling series against the Canisius Golden Griffins.
In a rematch of last year's championship game, the Crusaders started strong, with a 4-3 win in Game 1 on Friday. Junior Liam McLinskey scored the game-tying goal in the third period, and freshman Jack Stockfish sealed the victory with a power play goal, giving Holy Cross a 4-3 lead.
The second game on Saturday was a tightly contested battle. Canisius scored the first goal of the game and led 1-0 at the end of the first period. The game remained close until the second period, when four goals were scored, two by each team. Holy Cross tied the game with a shorthanded goal by senior Jack Ricketts. The game went into overtime, where sophomore Jack Seymour scored the game-winning goal 2:53 into the second overtime.
The Crusaders' win over Canisius marks their seventh straight victory, a streak that began after a 5-1 loss to Bentley in their final regular season game. The team's recent form has seen them move up to 2nd place in Atlantic Hockey.
Despite being predicted to finish 10th out of 10 teams in the Atlantic Hockey preseason poll, the Crusaders are proving their critics wrong. They have advanced to the semifinals and will host AIC in the series, with the first game at 7pm on Friday, March 15 at the Hart Center.
The men's hockey team's back-to-back wins against the Sacred Heart Pioneers for a third straight conference sweep, and their current hot streak, are giving hope to fans that this could be the year for a championship. The team is riding high and determined to make the most of their unexpected success.
