Mercedes-Benz set to deploy Apollo robots, humanoid models, in their vehicle manufacturing process
Mercedes-Benz, the renowned German automotive manufacturer, is delving into the potential of robotics and automation to address labor shortages in areas requiring low skill, repetitive, and physically demanding work.
The company has entered into a collaboration with Apptronik to identify applications for highly advanced robotics in Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing. One of the robots at the forefront of this partnership is the Apollo humanoid robot.
Apollo, standing at 5 foot 8 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds, is designed to operate in industrial spaces alongside people. It boasts a unique force control architecture for safe operation and can lift up to 55 pounds.
Joerg Burzer, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, expressed that the company is exploring new possibilities with robotics to support their workforce in manufacturing. He further added that advancements in robotics and AI open up new opportunities also for Mercedes-Benz.
The use of Apollo humanoid robots by Mercedes-Benz is expected to be a model that other organizations will replicate in the months and years to come. These robots are being explored for potential use cases in logistics, including delivering assembly kits to workers and totes of kitted parts later in the manufacturing process.
