Metropolitan Railway System in Munich on the brink of shutdown
The S-Bahn main line in Munich will be closed from August 29, 10:30 PM, to September 1, 4:40 AM, for overhead line works and the construction of a new bypass route and the second S-Bahn main line in Laim.
During this period, only one of the usual seven lines will run regularly on the main line. The S1 line goes directly from Moosach to the main station and will operate as normal. Passengers traveling from Pasing towards the city center can switch to regional trains, while those coming from the East Station can opt for the U-Bahn as an alternative.

To find alternative routes during the closure, consulting the apps of the railway and the Munich Transport Association (MVV) can be very helpful. It's also worth noting that the closure of the main line is a common occurrence for S-Bahn passengers in Munich, particularly on weekends and holidays, due to the work to modernize the main line and the construction of a second S-Bahn tunnel route under the city center.
However, the S6 line, which runs on a part of the main line, may be affected during the closure. The S7 line, on the other hand, runs regularly to the main station, as it does not run on the tracks of the main line.
Unfortunately, no specific information about the train operations on the main route this weekend was found in the search results. However, it's important to note that similar construction work is affecting various routes, such as Stuttgart's lines with substitute bus services and partial closures until mid-September 2025, and significant track work between Reutlingen and Tübingen causing service adjustments.
Passengers planning to go to the Superbloom festival in Olympiapark on August 30 and 31 should look for alternatives, as the S- and U-Bahn lines may be affected.
