Michigan Disables 15 Unlawful Internet Gaming Platforms
The Michigan Gaming Control Board Cracks Down on Unlicensed Online Gambling Operators
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has taken action against 15 unlicensed online gambling operators who have been offering casino-style games or interactive wagering to Michigan residents, without the required authorization.
The following operators have been ordered to immediately halt their Michigan-facing operations:
- 7 Bit Casino
- Avia Games Inc.
- Grande Vegas Casino
- High Country Casino
- i Net Bet
- Liberty Slots Casino
- Lincoln Casino
- Lucky Hippo Casino
- Miami Club Casino
- PrimaPlay Casino
- Slot Madness
- Slots Plus Casino
- Sun Palace Casino
- Vegas Casino Online
- Vegas2Web Casino
These operators have violated the Lawful Internet Gaming Act, the Lawful Sports Betting Act, the Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act, and sections of the Michigan Penal Code.
Operating without a license poses significant risks to consumers. Unregulated sites do not ensure fair games, do not resolve disputes, and may put users' financial and personal information at risk. They also operate outside regulatory oversight, which means unsafe practices and unfair play are common.
Henry Williams, the Executive Director of the MGCB, emphasized the importance of using only licensed platforms to ensure consumer safety, fair play, and protection of personal data. He also highlighted the "Play It Smart, Michigan" campaign, which aims to educate residents about the dangers of illegal gambling sites.
Through this campaign, the MGCB is providing Michiganders with the tools to differentiate between safe, legal play and dangerous, illegal operations. Williams warned that fake ads can be misleading, sometimes using familiar logos or names, but they can lead to offshore sites that put players at risk.
Failure to comply with the cease-and-desist orders could lead to additional enforcement actions in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Attorney General. The MGCB will continue to work aggressively to keep illegal gambling out of Michigan.
For Michigan sports bettors, it is important to only wager with MGCB-licensed platforms, where games are tested, player funds are protected, and regulatory oversight ensures accountability. The MGCB's new "Legal vs. Illegal Gaming" webpage explains the difference between authorized and unauthorized gaming in Michigan, offers tips on spotting illegal operators, and lists all internet gaming and internet sports betting operators licensed by the agency.
- Operating without a license, as seen with the 15 unlicensed online gambling operators like 7 Bit Casino and Vegas Casino Online, violates several acts, including the Lawful Internet Gaming Act and the Lawful Sports Betting Act, posing significant risks to consumers.
- In a general news context, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has been actively cracking down on illegal gambling, especially in the realm of sports betting, and has recently ordered 15 unlicensed operators to halt their Michigan-facing operations.
- For those engaged in sports betting, it's crucial to wager only with MGCB-licensed platforms, such as Vegas Casino Online, to ensure safety, fair play, and protection of personal data, while unregulated sites may put users' information at risk.
