Michigan Wolverines' Assistant Coach Biff Poggi to temporarily take over as interim head coach, while current head coach Sherrone Moore serves his suspension
Sherrone Moore, the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, has expressed his eagerness to return to his role on October 4 against Wisconsin. Moore's absence will be filled by interim coach Biff Poggi for the next two games, including the upcoming match against Central Michigan on Saturday and the conference opener against Nebraska.
Moore's suspension is a result of a Level II violation, which includes a two-game suspension this season, an additional one-game suspension for the Wolverines' 2026 opener in Frankfurt, Germany, and a two-year show-cause order. The suspension stems from deleted text messages exchanged with former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions, although Moore was not found to be directly involved in the operation.
During his suspension, Moore will be barred from all coaching activities, including practices and team meetings. Poggi, Michigan's associate head coach with prior experience under Jim Harbaugh and as head coach at Charlotte, was chosen as the interim head coach due to his familiarity with the program.
Poggi has been a part of Michigan football since 2016 and was promoted to associate head coach in 2021. His leadership during the interim period is expected to provide stability and continuity for the team.
The Wolverines, currently ranked No. 23, will face a challenging schedule in the coming weeks. They will look to build on their recent success and maintain their momentum under Poggi's guidance.
Sherrone Moore's suspension begins at 12.01 am on September 13 and ends at 11.59 pm on September 20. Upon his return, he will resume his duties as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, eager to lead his team against Wisconsin.
