Military eliminates terrorists, apprehends 17 suspects

Over the past three days, the Nigerian Army has made significant strides in its efforts to maintain peace and stability across various regions of the country. Major General Faruk Yahaya, the leader of these operations, has demonstrated the Army's resolve to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their logistics, and deny them safe havens.

In Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Kebbi, Plateau, Taraba, and the South-East, the Army has recorded operational gains. Notably, troops in Yobe State neutralized one terrorist and recovered an AK-47 rifle during an ambush. In Zamfara, a planned terrorist attack was foiled, resulting in the killing of one terrorist and the seizure of a mobile phone used for operational coordination.

In Plateau, five suspected pipeline vandals were apprehended, and government-owned pipes were recovered. The suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation. In Taraba, troops of Sector 3 FOB Wukari, under Operation Whirl Stroke, apprehended two suspected kidnap collaborators. Items recovered from the suspects included POS machines, ATM cards, and cash believed to be linked to ransom transactions.

On Aug. 13, troops of 34 Artillery Brigade launched a coordinated offensive on an IPOB/ESN camp at Ndeji Community. The operation resulted in the safe destruction of two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted by the criminals. Troops also recovered a pistol with ammunition, cartridges, handheld radios, components for IEDs, mobile phones, and other operational equipment at the Ndeji camp. One armed member was neutralized in the offensive.

In a notable development, a total of 25 family members of ISWAP fighters surrendered to troops in the North-East on Aug. 11. The surrendered family members comprised 12 adult females and 13 children from the Zalmari, Gazuwa, and Alafa axis.

On Aug. 12, troops in Kebbi apprehended eight suspected kidnappers believed to be behind several recent abductions. The Nigerian Army is maintaining relentless pressure on terrorists, bandits, separatists, and other criminal groups to restore peace and stability across all regions of the country. The Army neutralized scores of terrorists and apprehended 17 criminal suspects during these operations.

The Nigerian Army continues to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of its citizens, and it remains committed to its mission of maintaining peace and stability across the nation.
