Military rehearsing evacuation drills in Jagel.
The Luftwaffe, Germany's air force, recently conducted a successful exercise in Jagel near Schleswig, known as the "Significance of National Air Power 2025" (SNAP 2025). The exercise aimed to demonstrate the capabilities of the Luftwaffe to the participants of the leadership course at the Federal Armed Forces Command Academy.
According to Colonel Jens Schumacher, Commander of the Tactical Air Wing 51 "Immelmann", the one-hour exercise was carried out smoothly. Colonel Schumacher also noted that air forces have been increasingly recognised by the population in recent years, playing a significant role in deterrence and national and alliance defense.
During the exercise, various aircraft, including Tornado combat jets, Eurofighters, transport aircraft such as the A400M and the C-130J, helicopters, and air force ground forces participated. Low-level flights and overflights were performed, and pyrotechnics were used to simulate explosions. However, the exact objectives of the exercise were not disclosed.
Soldiers demonstrated air force capabilities on the ground and staged battles. It's worth mentioning that this exercise was a preliminary one, as the next exercise for the air wing is a NATO exercise abroad.
The exercise did not specify the number of participants from the leadership course at the Federal Armed Forces Command Academy. Additionally, no new details about the participants or the exact objectives of the exercise in Jagel near Schleswig were disclosed.
Looking ahead, future NATO air force units involved in overseas exercises include Germany increasing its Eurofighter jets from two to four stationed in Rostock-Laage for air defense missions over Poland, France contributing three Rafale fighter jets, and Denmark providing two F-16 jets and a frigate, as part of the "Eastern Sentry" operation to reinforce NATO's eastern flank.
As the world continues to evolve, the importance of air power capabilities remains crucial for national defense and alliances. The Luftwaffe's exercises serve as a testament to their commitment to maintaining these capabilities and readiness to respond to any potential threats.
