Minister advocates for decreasing bureaucratic obstacles within government entities
Germany's new Digital Minister, Karsten Wildberger, has taken office and is leading the newly created Ministry of Digital Affairs and State Modernization. Appointed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Wildberger's department aims to modernize administration, reduce bureaucracy, improve data traffic, and enhance networks.
In a letter sent on August 5, 2022, Wildberger urged all ministries of the German federal government to submit their plans for reducing bureaucracy in their respective departments by September 15, 2025. The letter, made available to the "Bild" newspaper and the German Press Agency, emphasizes the need for bureaucracy reduction and thanks the ministers in advance for their contribution.
The focus of the Ministry of Digital Affairs and State Modernization also includes providing online citizen services. To achieve this, Wildberger's department will contact the ministries to inquire about the current status of "bureaucracy reduction projects."
Furthermore, the ministry aims to give more responsibility to citizens and businesses. Wildberger advocates for increased trust in citizens and businesses by the state, and the focus of a reported October cabinet meeting will be on "deregulation and de-bureaucratization."
The Ministry of Digital Affairs and State Modernization was established to address digital affairs and state modernization. It is now part of Chancellor Friedrich Merz's cabinet, and Wildberger's department will work towards its goals with the aim of improving Germany's digital infrastructure and streamlining administration.
