Modernization of LED Displays at Football and Basketball Arenas at Lamar University

Lamar University has recently embarked on a mission to enhance the fan experience at its sports venues. The latest development in this initiative involves the installation of new LED display systems at both Umphrey Stadium, home to the Cardinals football team, and the Montagne Center.

At Umphrey Stadium, a new video scoreboard has taken centre stage. This upgrade, handled by Anthony James Partners (AJP), boasts a structure approximately twice the size of the previous scoreboard. The new scoreboard features a 10 mm pixel pitch and is built with EMPIRE Exterior technology. The scoreboard structure also includes interlocking "LU" channel lettering facing the field, and a 37-foot-wide illuminated logo on the back.

Meanwhile, the Montagne Center, adjacent to the football stadium, now boasts a new LED centerhung display system. The system consists of four slightly curved LED screens, with two of the screens measuring 8.10x17.9 feet and the other two measuring 8.10x13.5 feet. The total pixel count for the larger screens is 675x1,352 pixels, and for the smaller screens, it is 675x1,020 pixels.

The Montagne Center's LED screens are tilted downward to provide maximum line of sight for arena attendees. This new display system is designed to accommodate a variety of sporting events such as basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling, boxing, and martial arts tournaments. The Montagne Center, which seats just under 11,000 and regularly hosts various sporting events, received this upgrade from SNA Displays.

AJP continues to partner with Lamar University's athletics program to improve display systems. In the Montagne Center, they have also overseen the installation of a Point-Source Audio system, designed to enhance the audio experience for attendees.

The new LED scoreboard at the Montagne Center was installed in 2023, marking another step in Lamar University's commitment to providing top-notch facilities for its sports programmes. The upgrades at both venues aim to elevate the fan experience and further solidify Lamar University as a premier destination for sports in the region.
