Modified Version: Last Amended VDMA 24001 Standard
The VDMA General Air Technology Association has published the final version of VDMA Standard Sheet 24001, a comprehensive guide aimed at providing clarity and consistency in the design, installation, and operation of mechanical smoke and heat exhaust systems.
The standard, which is expected to be published in the second quarter of 2024, offers detailed explanations for complex mechanical smoke and heat exhaust systems, including those that require external cooling air supply. It is particularly noteworthy as there is currently no recognized standard for the use of mechanical smoke exhaust systems according to DIN EN 12101-3:2015 in the industry.
Chapter six of the VDMA 24001 standard explains the insulation and connection of smoke exhaust ducts to meet building code requirements, such as those described in DIN 4102-4. The standard also provides illustrations in detail to aid understanding.
The VDMA 24001 standard contains information on various device types, temperature classes, operating modes, maintenance, labeling, and marking. Crucially, it does not include manufacturer-specific details, ensuring a level playing field for all parties involved.
The model administrative regulation for technical building codes (MVV TB) requires the use of mechanical smoke exhaust systems according to DIN EN 12101-3:2015. Recognition of the VDMA 24001 standard in the MVV TB would help manufacturers, planners, operators, building authorities, experts, and testing experts.
Christine Montigny, a representative of the VDMA's General Air Technology Association, stated that the goal of the VDMA Standard Sheet 24001 is to serve as a recognized standard. The standard is available for purchase from the DIN Media GmbH.
Smoke and heat exhaust systems can be installed on foundations, steel constructions, or bases, and the requirements for location and fastening differ depending on the installation. The standard explains the applicability of mechanical smoke and heat exhaust systems in these contexts.
The VDMA 24001 standard sheet contains many clarifications in its final version compared to the draft released in February. These clarifications aim to ensure that the standard is as comprehensive and useful as possible for all parties involved. The standard's future recognition in the MVV TB is a significant step towards ensuring safety and consistency in the use of mechanical smoke and heat exhaust systems.
