Monuments in Lüner will open their doors on September 14th, observing Memorial Day.

Join us on Sunday, 14th September, 2025, for a unique opportunity to delve into Lünen's rich history as several landmarks open their doors for the Day of Open Heritage.

One of the participating landmarks is the Alte Schule Alstedde, an 1865 complex located on Alter Kirchweg. This rare example of a "one-room school" includes a school building, teacher's residence, stable, and school garden. The protected building section will be open from 11 am to 3 pm, with guided tours offered at full-hour intervals. The school garden, maintained by the Arbeitskreis für Umwelt und Heimat e.V., can be freely visited.

The former canteen, now part of the Erlebnisreich Campus, will also be accessible from 11 am to 4 pm. After recent heritage-sensitive renovation, this historical building now offers conference and event spaces. Refreshments will be available, and additional entertainment includes coffee, cake, and musical performances in the style of the 1860s.

Another fascinating landmark is Villa Urbahn on Graf-Adolf-Straße, designed by Anton Huber in 1925 and a heritage site since 2017. Villa Urbahn houses the Lünen City Museum and will be open from 10 am to 6 pm on the 13th and 14th of September. Current exhibitions, guided tours of the old building, and a children's painting workshop will be offered.

The former canteen of the Gewerkschaft Eisenhuette Westfalia on Huettenallee, built around 1870 and part of Lünen's oldest industrial plant, the 1826-founded Eisenhuette Westfalia, is another participating site.

The Geschwister-Scholl-Gesamtschule on Holtgrevenstraße is yet another landmark opening its doors for this event.

The nationwide action day is coordinated by the Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz and aims to raise awareness of the value of historic buildings. This year's theme is "Worthwhile: Priceless or Irreplaceable?". For more information about the Day of Open Heritage and a list of all open heritage sites, visit the official app and website www.tag-des-offenen-denkmals.de.

Please note that access to the buildings at the Alte Schule Alstedde is not barrier-free.
