On a clear September night in 2025, the Blood Moon graced the skies of Türkiye, captivating the hearts of astronomy enthusiasts and photographers alike. The total lunar eclipse, a spectacle of nature, was visible across the country, from the eastern city of Bitlis to the bustling metropolis of Istanbul.

In Bitlis, residents and tourists gathered along the city's streets and Van Lake to photograph the Blood Moon. The historic Apollon Temple in Manavgat, Antalya, was another popular destination, where tourists gathered to witness the celestial event.

Nuray Yıldız and Seher Erdoğan, two skilled photographers in Erzincan, set up their equipment to capture the Blood Moon eclipse. Yıldız remarked, "These are rare moments to photograph," as they recorded the Moon gradually entering Earth's shadow during the total lunar eclipse.

The Blood Moon was framed by historic ruins in Manavgat, adding an extra touch of magic to the already awe-inspiring sight. In Van, the Blood Moon was visible against the scenic lakeside backdrop, creating a breathtaking scene.

In Istanbul, residents gathered at the Rami Library for an observation event, although clouds obscured the Moon. Despite this, astronomy talks were held, attended by children and parents, making the event an educational experience as well.

The Blood Moon's distinctive red colour was due to sunlight passing through Earth's atmosphere, with shorter blue wavelengths dispersed more than red ones. This phenomenon, known as Rayleigh scattering, is responsible for the red hue of sunsets and sunrises, and it created a mesmerising sight during the Blood Moon.

The Blood Moon was not visible in the Americas, but it was observed and recorded by astronomers across Türkiye. The event, specifically known as a "Blood Moon," was a rare and memorable sight for those who were fortunate enough to witness it.
