Moroccan tech giant ORA Technologies purchases logistics startup Cathedis
Ora Technologies, a Moroccan super-app startup, has made a strategic move by acquiring Cathedis, a Casablanca-based last-mile delivery platform. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Cathedis, which recently raised a Series A funding round, specialises in last-mile deliveries. This acquisition allows Ora to take direct control of a critical part of the logistics chain, aiming to improve the digital payment to physical delivery process for its Kooul e-commerce platform.
Kooul, Ora's food delivery app, has recorded over 15,000 active clients in the last 10 months. The acquisition of Cathedis is expected to further strengthen Kooul's operations by bringing logistics in-house, creating a seamless end-to-end experience for its users.
The Series A round, which followed Ora's pre-Series A round of US$1.9 million in March, was aimed at expanding Ora's last-mile operations. The funds raised will also be used to fortify Ora's digital cash collection infrastructure.
Ora's universal mobile wallet, ORA Cash, has achieved over 50,000 accounts in just five months. ORA Cash is being used by riders to digitise the cash-on-delivery business in Morocco. The startup's acquisition of Cathedis is aimed at building an integrated e-commerce and fintech platform.
Ora Technologies was founded in 2023 by Omar Alami. The ORA app offers P2P transactions, an e-commerce platform, on-demand services, chat functionality, and social networking. The acquisition of Cathedis is a significant step towards Ora's goal of becoming a one-stop solution for all digital needs in Morocco.
Despite extensive searches, the founder of Ora Technologies was not found in the available search results. There may be possible confusion with Oracle Corporation, which was founded by Larry Ellison in 1977 in California.
This acquisition comes just months after Cathedis raised a Series A funding round, indicating a growing interest in the last-mile delivery sector in Morocco. As Ora Technologies continues to expand its operations, it is set to revolutionise the digital landscape in Morocco.
