Moscow's top aide confirms ongoing offensive actions
Russia's Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov has announced the continuation of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with new objectives for an autumn offensive. This announcement contradicts calls from US President Donald Trump, among others, to quickly end the war in Ukraine.
Gerasimov's announcement comes as Russian forces currently control around 99.7% of the Ukrainian territory in Luhansk, 79% in Donetsk, 76% in Kherson, and 74% in Zaporizhzhia, according to Gerasimov. These figures, however, are not independently verifiable.
Russia's moves have been met with criticism from Europe, with the Europeans planning to send troops to Ukraine to secure a potential future peace. However, Russia criticizes these plans, demanding that Ukrainian forces withdraw completely from areas like Donetsk to achieve a ceasefire. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected this demand for withdrawal.
Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev accuses Europeans of attempting to prolong the Ukraine conflict by making unfulfillable demands. Dmitriev urges the EU to stop sabotaging the peace process, according to the news. Europeans, on the other hand, accuse Russia of a stalling tactic, using the prospect of negotiations and new deadlines to gain time for new attacks.
The ongoing conflict, which has been ongoing for more than three and a half years, has seen the involvement of a coalition of 26 countries, including Germany, France, the USA, the UK, and others. The USA is the largest bilateral supporter, followed by Germany, with significant EU support as well. The coalition aims to provide security on land, sea, air, and cyber domains against the Russian invasion.
Meanwhile, in Hamm, city utility workers are working on gas conversion, and there is a major internet outage, as reported. Support for families is also available for school start, as reported.
The Ukraine conflict continues to be a source of international tension, with no clear end in sight. As the autumn offensive approaches, the world watches with bated breath, hoping for a peaceful resolution to this long-standing conflict.
