Moscow's Yellow Evenings

In the heart of the late 1990s, as the world was still adjusting to the fall of the Berlin Wall, Enrico Franceschini's political thriller, "Moscow Nights," unfolded. The story begins in the war-torn landscapes of Chechnya, where Selina Masdaev, the protagonist, finds her family torn apart by Russian soldiers. Tragically, her husband and children were killed before her very eyes.

Devoted to martyrdom and willing to sacrifice herself for Chechnya's independence, Selina embarks on a path of vengeance. Her journey intertwines with that of Marco Bassani, an Italian journalist with a controversial past. Marco, who is connected to both Selina and Jack McLean, a former SAS veteran, finds himself drawn into the struggle for Chechnya's independence.

Marco's sister was Jack's wife, who died young, and the attack on Jack's son was orchestrated by Russian oligarchs. Haunted by loss, Jack decides to investigate who ordered the attack that took his son's life. His quest leads him to the antagonist of the story, Vladimir Volkov, the Russian Minister of Defense, a man driven by ambition and devoid of moral compass.

The action in "Moscow Nights" takes place across various locations, from the snow-covered mountains of the Caucasus to the grandeur of the Kremlin, the glamour of Courchevel ski slopes, the intelligence services offices in London, and the chaotic streets of Moscow. The story unfolds during the last months of Boris Yeltsin's presidency, a time of political instability and intrigue.

"Moscow Nights" is a tale of vengeance, sacrifice, and political intrigue, filled with characters typical of a Cold War-era espionage setting. The novel, penned by Enrico Franceschini, is a gripping account of a woman's quest for justice and the lengths one might go to protect their homeland.
