Motion Pictures Showcasing Vibrant Jewish Lifestyle and Tradition
The Jewish Cultural Festival in Osnabrück is now underway, with Cinema Arthouse playing host to a diverse range of films that showcase the rich tapestry of Jewish culture.
One of the highlights of the festival is the award-winning Israeli film, "Seven Blessings", which tells the story of a large Jewish-Moroccan family reuniting for a wedding, filled with secrets, lies, and heartache. The film will be screened on September 5 at 5 pm.
Another film screening on the same day at the same time is "Greener Pastures", a comedy about a 75-year-old widower who starts a medical cannabis trade in a nursing home. This film promises to bring laughter and light-heartedness to the festival.
For those seeking adventure, "Sky Raiders" is a family-friendly film that follows the journey of 13-year-old Yotam, who loves airplanes but has a fear of them due to his father's death in a crash. Along with his classmate Noa, Yotam discovers a Czech aircraft from World War II on a local junkyard and aims to restore it to fly it in time for the annual airshow.
The characters face numerous challenges, including Noa's strict father, a jealous brother, and their deepest fears. "Sky Raiders" is a heartwarming tale of friendship, courage, and determination.
The festival also features "Irena's Secret", a film adaptation of the true story of Irene Gut Opdyke, a Polish nurse who saved Jewish lives during WWII. Opdyke was forced to supervise Jewish forced laborers and later hid Jewish people in a German officer's villa to protect them.
Interestingly, the baby boy Roman Haller, who was born in hiding during WWII, is still alive today. His story serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit during times of adversity.
The Jewish Cultural Festival Osnabrück presents a unique opportunity to explore the many facets and expressions of Jewish culture, including philosophy, humor, and cultural renewal. So, grab your popcorn and get ready for an enlightening and entertaining cultural journey!
Avi Toubiana, the director of the cultural festival, recommends catching "Irena's Secret" on September 7 at 4 pm. Meanwhile, "Sky Raiders" is scheduled for September 5 at Cinema Arthouse at 9 am. Don't miss out on these captivating films!
