Moto2 team Intact GP has confirmed that Manuel Gonzalez will join them in the 2026 season.
Gonzalez Secures 2026 Season with Intact GP Amidst MotoGP Interest
Manuel Gonzalez, the current leader of the Moto2 World Championship, has confirmed his stay with Intact GP for the 2026 season. The announcement was made in Barcelona, putting an end to speculations about his potential move to MotoGP.
Gonzalez, affectionately known as 'ManuGasss', has had a remarkable season so far. With three wins in the first six races, he has built a 25-point lead over Aron Canet. His impressive performance has not gone unnoticed, as several MotoGP teams showed interest in the young racer.
However, Gonzalez has expressed his happiness about continuing to work with Intact GP. In a statement, he said, "'ManuGasss' is thrilled. This year has been incredible. I've been fighting for wins and podiums and leading the championship. I'm really happy to continue working with the team. It's been a great journey so far, and we'll give 100 percent for another year."
Intact GP also secured the contract extension with Senna Agius for the 2026 season, ensuring the team's continuity.
Despite the confirmation of his stay with Intact GP, a move up to MotoGP in 2027 could still be within reach for Gonzalez if he continues to impress in the next season. This possibility arises from his impressive performance this year, which has caught the attention of several MotoGP teams.
Interestingly, Gonzalez had a rejection from Pramac Yamaha during the Hungarian Grand Prix. Jack Miller's contract was renewed by Pramac Yamaha instead, with the team choosing him over Gonzalez.
In a bid to prepare for a potential MotoGP move, Gonzalez rode a MotoGP bike for Trackhouse Racing during the Aragon test. However, as of now, there is no confirmed information about Gonzalez being signed by any MotoGP team for the 2027 season. Future plans for 2027 remain undecided or unknown.
The German racing team, which hails from Moto2, is where Gonzalez has found his home for the time being. His opportunity to defend the Moto2 championship, a feat only achieved by Johann Zarco in 2015 and 2016, awaits if he manages to win the 2025 Moto2 championship.
As the season progresses, fans and enthusiasts alike will be eagerly waiting to see if Gonzalez can maintain his lead and secure the Moto2 championship, and if his impressive performance will lead to a coveted MotoGP seat in the future.
