Motorway crash on A42 close to Essen: Van swerves off road and flips over, causing complete traffic standstill
On a wet morning of Friday, July 26, 2024, an unfortunate incident occurred on the A42 towards Dortmund. The incident, which took place shortly after the Altenessener Kreuz, resulted in the complete closure of the lane and significant traffic congestion.
At approximately 7:19 AM, a Renault Master, driven by a 34-year-old man from Herne, lost control due to an unknown cause. The van veered off the road, hitting the guardrail on both sides before overturning. As a result, the heavily damaged Renault came to rest on its right side, with the driver being thrown onto the grass median during the second impact.
Rescue personnel arrived promptly at the scene and transported the severely injured man to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, the man's life was not in immediate danger, as determined at the hospital.
The accident investigation is ongoing, and no further details about the cause of the accident have been released. The lane on the A42 towards Dortmund remains closed for the investigation.
