Mourning and Solidarity Symbolized by Candlelight Vigil
In the city of Solingen, residents are coming together to mourn and show solidarity after a cowardly attack that disrupted their anniversary celebration one week ago. Mayor Tim Kurzbach has extended his sympathies to the deceased, injured, and their loved ones, encouraging the people of Solingen to feel for one another during this difficult time.
Three individuals have tragically lost their lives as a result of the attack, and some have been injured. In response, the city is organising candle-lighting and remembrance events to take place simultaneously on Friday, 30th August, at 21:37. The remembrance event on the Fronhof will not have any speeches or accompanying program, and the candle-lighting event is intended to take place without speeches or accompanying program as well.
Mayor Kurzbach has invited all Solingen residents to light a candle at home as a sign of mourning and solidarity on Friday, 30th August. He hopes that Solingen will shine in the candlelight during the commemorative events. A brief and silent remembrance with a minute of silence will also take place at 21:37 on the Fronhof.
The candle will be placed in the window at 21:37, which is the exact time when the terrible act occurred one week ago. The remembrance events are part of the ongoing response to the attack and are intended to show unity and solidarity among Solingen residents.
