Last week, Southern dining chain Cracker Barrel revealed a redesign of its logo and restaurant interiors, causing a stir among customers and critics alike.

The redesigned logo does away with the illustration of an old man leaning against a barrel, instead focusing on a call-back to the original logo with a more rooted emphasis on the iconic barrel shape and word mark that started it all back in 1969. A new typeface against a gold background is now used, giving the logo a modern touch.

The interior of Cracker Barrel restaurants has been remodeled to have a cleaner, more minimalist theme, with white walls and different decor. The company's representative emphasized that Uncle Herschel remains front and center in Cracker Barrel's restaurants and on its menu.

The redesign also includes a new menu with breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. However, the changes have been met with criticism from some quarters. Heritage is a significant aspect of Cracker Barrel's success, and the new redesign has been criticized for scraping it away.

Rival franchise Steak 'n Shake criticized Cracker Barrel for deleting the personality from its brand with the redesign. Right-wing influencer "End Wokeness" suggested that Cracker Barrel CEO Julie Masino should face charges for the logo change. Conservative commentator Benny Johnson criticized the logo change as "absolutely horrible."

The Democratic Party's official X account criticized the Cracker Barrel redesign, while MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart expressed frustration with the backlash against Cracker Barrel's redesigned logo. He views the critics' outrage over the change as exaggerated and calls them "snowflakes," arguing that the backlash is a waste of time and a manufactured outrage, distracting from more important issues.

Capehart also expressed frustration with the manufactured outrage over the logo change, stating that the company's values have not changed. He emphasized that Uncle Herschel remains front and center in Cracker Barrel's restaurants and on its menu, ensuring that the brand's heritage is still preserved.
