Multiple Incidents of Unlicensed Driving Under the Influence
In a series of routine traffic checks conducted over the weekend by the Bitburg Police Station, six drivers were found to be either driving without a license or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The checks began on Friday afternoon in Speicher, where a 20-year-old driver was stopped and found to be driving without a valid license. To make matters worse, a subsequent drug test revealed the presence of amphetamines in the driver's system.
On Saturday, the police in Nusbaum stopped a 23-year-old driver who admitted to smoking cannabis before getting behind the wheel. A subsequent test confirmed the presence of THC in the driver's system.
Later that day, another driver was stopped in Bitburg and tested positive for THC after signs of recent drug use were observed. Another driver in the same town was found to be over the limit for alcohol, with a breath test result just under 1.00%.
The following day, Sunday, a 26-year-old driver in Bitburg was stopped and tested positive for THC. Another driver in the same town was stopped early in the morning and found to be over the limit for alcohol.
Criminal and administrative proceedings have been initiated in each case, and the vehicles were not allowed to continue their journey.
It is important to note that the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm vehicle registration office (Fahrerlaubnisbehörde and Kfz-Zulassungsstelle) is responsible for issuing driver's licenses and registering vehicles in Bitburg.
